Instrument Rating
IMC / IR(Restricted)

Fly legally through cloud and in reduced visibility. Master precision instrument approaches and enhanced airmanship at Sibson Aerodrome.

Instrument Scan Skills

Master attitude control and VOR/NDB navigation in IMC conditions.

Instrument Approaches

Execute ILS glidepath and non-precision cloud break approaches to CAA minima.

Legal IFR Privileges

Fly legally under IFR in UK Class D/E/G airspace when weather falls below VFR minima.

Official CAA IMC / IR(R) Requirements

25 Hours Total Flying

Total aeroplane time since PPL(A) issue (can include IMC training hours).

10 Hours PIC (incl. 5hrs X/C)

10 hours Pilot-in-Command, at least 5 of which must be cross-country navigation.

15 Hours Dual Instrument

15 hours minimum dual flight training, of which 10 hours must be by sole reference to instruments.

Written Exam & CAA Skill Test

Pass the IMC Rating written examination and a practical Skill Test with a CAA Examiner.
