Everything you need to know about booking trial flights, voucher policies, PPL pilot training, medicals, and Sibson Aerodrome.
Unpredictable UK weather? No problem. If rain, low clouds, or high winds prevent a safe flight, your booking is rescheduled at zero penalty. Your voucher validity automatically extends.
Every trial flight lesson includes a 15–20 minute pre-flight safety briefing, an aircraft walkaround inspection, full flight time alongside a CAA-certificated flight instructor, and hands-on time at the controls in the air. Following the flight, you receive a commemorative certificate and post-flight debrief.
Safety and passenger comfort are our top priorities. Under our 100% Weather Guarantee, if low clouds, heavy rain, or high winds prevent safe flying, your booking or voucher will be rescheduled to another convenient date with zero penalty or hidden fees. Vouchers never expire due to weather postponements.
Yes! On 4-seat aircraft experiences (such as our Cessna 172 or Piper PA-28), you may bring up to 1 passenger in the rear seat at no additional charge, subject to combined aircraft weight and balance limits.
Technically, there is no strict minimum age limit to experience a trial flight. However, for security and safety reasons, the passenger must be physically large enough to be securely fastened into the aircraft seat and safety harness independently. (For pilot training, students can log flight time towards a licence from age 14 and fly solo from age 16). The maximum weight limit for standard flight experiences is 16 stone (101kg) per person and maximum height is 6ft 5in (195cm).
The UK CAA minimum requirement is 40 flight hours (including at least dual instruction and solo flight time). Most UK students complete their PPL training in 45 to 55 hours. Depending on your lesson frequency (e.g. 1–2 flights per week), most students complete their PPL within 6 to 12 months.
If your flight voucher has passed its original expiry date, don't worry! Simply call our operations team on 01832 280634. We are happy to extend your voucher validity for a small administrative extension fee of £50 (which covers re-issuance admin, slot re-booking, and aircraft scheduling costs).
No. Peterborough Flying School operates strictly under a Zero-Discount Business Strategy. We do not offer cheap gimmicks or price cuts. Instead, we invest 100% into aircraft maintenance, top-tier CAA flight instructors, VIP customer service, and our 100% Weather Guarantee to provide an elite aviation experience.
We do not demand massive upfront course fees. You pay lesson-by-lesson for aircraft wet hire and instructor time. This gives you complete flexibility to pace your training according to your personal schedule and budget.
You do not need a medical certificate for your initial trial flight. However, before flying solo in training, you must hold a valid UK Part-MED Class 2 Medical Certificate issued by a CAA-authorised Aeromedical Examiner (AME).
All trial flight vouchers purchased directly through Peterborough Flying School are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. If a flight is postponed due to weather, your voucher validity is automatically extended.
Our main home base is Sibson Aerodrome (Wansford, Peterborough PE8 6NE), operating on grass runways in uncrowded airspace. We also operate out of Peterborough Business Airport (Holme PE7 3PX) for tarmac runway training.
